Let’s Talk Periods
On Tuesday the 14th of November at 6pm all children from years three to six, who will get a period and have a menstrual cycle, are invited to bring a parent/ caregiver to the school for an evening of activities (nail painting, hand massage, ball games, and jewellery making) and learning about the physical changes associated with menstruation. The evening will address the physical facts about periods, the menstrual cycle, and how to apply self- care strategies, and provide the opportunity to explore period products. What’s more, the first 50 families to attend will receive a free period starter kit, valued at $29.99!
Talking about periods is important. By bringing menstruation out into the open, the session is letting our children know it is okay to discuss periods and that they are a normal and healthy part of reproductive life. The first step to breaking taboos about periods- such as it being unclean, that it can cause serious illness, and bad luck for example- is by properly naming and talking about periods without using euphemisms, which is what this session will do. Talking about personal subjects like periods, can make some parents and children feel a little uncomfortable. Rest assured that this evening will foster a safe and comfortable environment for all. Please register your attendance by clicking on the link in the flyer. We look forward to seeing you there!
