Grade 6 Community News

It has been a great start to the final term in primary school for our current year 6.  As there are lots of events happening this term, please make sure you keep your notifications on, so you don’t miss anything.

In Reading, we have continued our Journeys to Australia unit. This has allowed students to really think about the problems migrants coming to Australia face. In addition to this, we have continued to read The Happiest Refugee by Anh Doh. The children have been learning about the complex and fascinating journey Anh Doh had to take to become the star he is today.

In Writing, we are continuing to work on our long-awaited scrapbooks. Students have completed a narrative poem about Grade Two and a newspaper report for Grade Three. Those students who have managed to add pictures, certificates and decorations have really brought their scrapbooks alive. Parents, please can you have a look at home to see if there are any things you could provide your children with to really enhance their scrapbooks.

In Maths, we have completed our unit on money. The children were multiplying decimals, adding, and subtracting percentages as well as completing real life problems. We then moved onto completing some of our final assessments. Students have been tested on Number & Algebra, Measurement & Geometry.

Finally, a huge congratulations to all our Olympiads for receiving their certificates.

Yuvraj, in 6B, stated ‘that while the programme was difficult, it really taught me how to take the time to figure out complicated questions and the experience will be very beneficial for year 7’.

Our Vocabulary Words are taken from our serial text: The Happiest Refugee by Anh Doh.

Don’t forget that Term 4 means ‘No Hat – No Outside Play’. In addition, it is very important that each student has a water bottle with them at school.

Please keep collecting pictures and certificates that can used to add to your scrapbook.
