Library News - Book Week in the Library
Miss Debbie
Well, what an exciting week it was – Greenvale Primary School Book Week. There were so many activities and so much happening. One of those things was the announcement of the 2023 CBCA Book of the Year Awards and we were lucky enough to have Gregg Deise an Author /Illustrator /Musician and First Nations person visit our whole school, Book Character parade and lunchtime activities.
The students have had many of the shortlisted books read to them during their library sessions. So, it is exciting to announce the winners. I wonder if any of the winners were favourites with your child?
We also had students involved in Shadow Judging the Younger Readers category this year. Students from all over Australia were Shadow Judges and their awards were announced on Friday 25 August. It is interesting that often the Shadow Judges winners are different from the adult judge’s awards.
We were extremely lucky to have Gregg Deise visit us. Gregg told stories, was very funny, played the digeridoo, taught the students a few words of his language as well as singing. The students were up dancing like emus and kangaroos, as well as singing Hello and Welcome. Gregg is the author of many books including KooKoo Kookaburra, Awesome Emu, Mad Magpie, Silly Birds, Cunning Crow, Hello and Welcome, My Culture and Me, and Common Wealth. These books are all available in the school library.
The library entrance has been transformed into the “What a Wonderful World” theme to tie in with the Writers Festival that will be on display later this year. Feel free to drop into the library and have a look at our “Wonderful World”.
The library entrance has been inspired by Louis Armstrong’s song “What a Wonderful World”
I see trees of green
Red roses too
I see them bloom
For me and you
And I think to myself
What a wonderful world
I see skies of blue
And clouds of white
The bright blessed day
The dark sacred night
And I think to myself
What a wonderful world
The colors of the rainbow
So pretty in the sky
Are also on the facesOf people going by
I see friends shaking hands
Saying, "How do you do?"
They're really sayingI love you
I hear babies cry
I watch them grow
They'll learn much more
Than I'll ever know
And I think to myself
What a wonderful world
Yes, I think to myself
What a wonderful world
Ooh, yes
