Term 3 Science News

National Science Week was held from 12th-20th August. The school theme for this year is Innovation: Powering Future Industries, which incorporates the advancement in technology in all industries, especially using artificial intelligence (AI).

 

Here at Greenvale Primary School, each year level completed a different task focusing on a variety of areas:

 

Foundation – The wheels go round and round

Our foundation students explored how wheels move and how they make lots of different things move too.

 

Year 1 - Code a Binary Bracelet

Students designed and created a bracelet using black and white beads that spelt out their initials using binary code.

Year 2 – Smart Farms 

This year level investigated how to make farming better and designed a smart farm which included the use of technology. 

Year 3 and 4 - Make an insect trap

Students used a design brief to create a device that would trap an imaginary insect damaging a local farm.

Year 5 – Create your own tunes with code

Students explored the similarities between music and coding. Using Scratch, they created three different instruments and created a tune.

 

Year 6 – Hour of Coding

Using Minecraft Education, students explored the concept of artificial intelligence or AI.
