From our Assistant Principal

At Croydon SDS we are creating success

Did you know that this is our Croydon SDS vision statement?

On Curriculum day this week, staff spent one of the learning sessions discussing all aspects of our school vision. This underpins everything we do at our school. We recognised that success looks different for each of our students and that working towards their individual goals will happen at a their own pace. We agreed that working together as a whole staff team creates best opportunities for success for students and that everyone plays an important role and we thought about all of the structures and strategies we use to promote success for our students.

We also acknowledge the importance of parents and carers working in partnership with school staff as we strive to create success for each and every one of our students.

In our discussions, staff considered two questions. You can see their responses below.

What does success for students look like, sound like and feel like at Croydon SDS?

What do we do at Croydon SDS to create success for our students?

We hope that you our parents and carers will see, hear and feel this when you drop off and pick up your children, when you meet with teachers and therapists in Student Support Group meetings, when your children look forward to coming to school and participating in the many, varied school programs and in all the interactions you and your children have with our great staff team.

Emergency Management Plan 2023-2024

We have just completed our whole school Emergency Management Plans for 2023-2024.

This is a Department of Education required document which we review each year. It outlines a range of different potential emergency situations and our response procedures.

Each term we have a practice drill so that staff and students are familiar with the steps for each of the procedures. Each classroom has an evacuation map, emergency instructions lanyard and a social stories to support students to understand what they need to do.

If you have any questions about anything related to emergency management, please don't hesitate to speak with Christine or I.

At Croydon SDS we have 3 key emergency procedures:

Off site evacuation - Students and staff move to and assemble at the tennis courts in Belmont Park adjacent to the school grounds.

On site evacuation - Students and staff move to the basketball court.

Shelter in Place - (Lockdown) - In the event of an unsafe person or situation students and staff move indoors and external doors are locked.
