Dear Parents & Carers

Welcome to our new look newsletter!

We are now subscribing to Naavi, which will provide our readers with a more interactive newsletter. Our fortnightly newsletter is a major source of communication to our families, grandparents and even others within our school and wider communities. It will be sent to parents via email, Compass and will be published on our Facebook page each odd week of the term eg Weeks 1,3, 5 etc on the Friday afternoon. We appreciate any feedback regarding the ‘new look’ newsletter and we will publish a survey next term and ask parents what they think to ensure we are improving the newsletter to cater for our audience.

Father’s Day

Did you know that the first Fathers’ Day was 110 years ago?

Fathers’ Day as we know it, started in 1910 as a result of the efforts of a young American girl who wanted to recognise fathers, inspired by her own father who was a single Dad with six children. Since then Fathers’ Day is celebrated in many countries but not all on the first Sunday in September as it is here in Australia.

While Fathers’ Day is a celebration of fatherhood, it’s a time for us to honour, celebrate and to be thankful for all of the men, father figures and male role models in our lives, including our uncles, grandfathers, Godfathers, and even our male teachers. We recognise the very important role you have in the lives of children.

Our Pie and Footy Day today was a fun way to gather the special men in our children’s lives at St Joey’s and share in a game of footy and lunch with the students. Thank you to all the men who came along today. The weather was lovely and there was lots of laughter and smiles. A special thank you to Mrs Sweeney and her helpers in the canteen who worked very hard to get the food and drinks served to everyone.

Thank you to all of the dads, grandads and father figures in our school community. The children love you and are so proud of you. On behalf of all the staff and students at St Joey’s we wish you all an awesome day on Sunday and want you to know how grateful we are for all that you do!

Trent Barrett Shield

Next Thursday our Stage 2 students will all participate in the Trent Barrett Rugby League/ League Tag Day at Loftus Oval, Junee. Regardless of whether the children play League/League Tag or not, we like all students to attend to build on their team skills and support one another. It is an expectation that all students attend this day and represent our school.

Thank you to Mrs Lisa Oliver for organising the canteen on the day and anyone who has already indicated to assist her. We are very appreciative of all your time and effort by helping out with this fundraiser.

I hope you all enjoy your weekend, especially Sunday.

God Bless,

Angela Scott
