Foundation, Year 1 and Year 2

As part of our Inquiry unit 'Move, Improve, Invent', groups (consisting of Foundation, Year 1 and Year 2 students), were given the challenge of designing and creating a car with wheels, that would travel 2 meters.

"So we were making cars and we were trying to make them go 2 meters. Sadly, ours didn't go the 2 meters but we had a lot of fun making it. We are going to try to improve it and make it successful, like changing the wheels."

"We did it! Our car turned out really good because the wheels were all the same size and shape."

"This was a really good experience because we had never built a car before as a team. Our car made the distance. I think this happened because we kept improving our wheels to make it move better."

"Our car moved the whole 2 meters. The wheels stayed on!"

"It was amazing. We went just over half way and almost made it to the finish line. We all had lots of fun even if we didn't make the distance. We think we could make the wheels lower because they didn't move much."

"The car making was very interesting and fun. We learnt how to work with students from other year levels. Our car was very close to the finish line. Next time we think we should not worry so much about how it looks but how it moves."

"Our car did not make the distance. I think we could improve it by changing the size of the base and changing the side the wheels are attached to."

"When we made our car, we thought it was good but then we found out that the wheels were not sticking properly. We think we need to make a lot of improvements."

"Our group worked really hard and we were happy with how our car worked and looked because it travelled the 2 meters. We put 6 wheels because we thought it would move more easily and it did! We used sticks and holes in the bottle caps and didn't use any sticky tape because we wanted the caps to move like real wheels."

Religion

This week in Religion the students were asked to think about a word that meant something to them, connecting them to God, Jesus and the Catholic Faith. Students then decorated a prayer stone with this word. The prayer stone is a sacred item they will be able to use throughout the rest of the year whilst at school. Students will be able to take it home at the end of the year to create their own special place at home to pray to God.

Making a prayer stone was a whole new religious experience. I thought that decorating a rock would be nothing special until now I think decorating a rock of faith was super fun. I want to do more decorating for praying. I will bring it on the floor every time I'm praying to the lord so I can make sure the holy spirit will appreciate how I'm a part of the Catholic faith.

Azariah

When I made my prayer stone it was amazing, I was really calm. I was enjoying it so much it made me feel like I was in heaven with God, Jesus and Mary.

After I was done I really enjoyed it because I'd never done it before, I really wanted to do it again so badly that I started to meditate just like I do in my bedroom.

Prayer Stone

I like my Prayer stone because it has the word Inspire so whenever I look at it it inspires me to be like God and Jesus and having peace with one another.

I think it is good to have it because if you don’t have a sacred item then you use the prayer stone and you have a connection with God while you pray to Him.

Prayer Stone

I think prayer stones are a good way for people with a different religion to have a christian item and include all religions with the christian religion.

Prayer stones are a special way to communicate to God, Jesus and Mary. We also keep it in our heart. We can have a quiet prayer while we’re at the table doing work.

In conclusion, prayer stones are a good way to connect to God, Jesus and Mary.
