Science
All classes are currently concluding their Biological Science Units, with Foundation now well and truly aware of what is required for us to remain health and safe to enjoy our lives to the fullest!
Grade 1/2 have completed the term by working on a research project - using information texts, the posters and labelled diagrams and information they have gathered through the term to do this. They have had some great results!
This week Grades 3/4 will conclude their investigation exploring the best conditions for eucalypt seeds to germinate.
It was interesting to learn that the seeds in the control pots, and those in poor quality soil grew best.
Eucalypt originally grew in rainforests in Australia, but over time have adapted to grow in the drought conditions and nutrient poor soil of our environment.
It has been very exciting to have the number of seeds actually germinate considering they usually like much warmer weather conditions for this to occur.
At 3/4 Assembly, we presented Kim from Park Lane Nursery with a certificate of thanks for the kind donation of eucalypt seeds for this unit of work.
Grade 5/6 are also concluding their investigation exploring how methods of watering, and levels of salt in the water and soil plants grow in affects their health and growth.
We have all come to the conclusion that lettuce and Chinese cabbage certainly do not grow well in soil affected by salinity.
