Hatching Eggs

Our preschoolers have engaged with the hatching eggs project over the past 2 weeks. We started with 12 fertilised eggs in the incubator. Pink Group were very lucky to watch our first 2 chickens hatch right before their eyes. So much excitement as we watched them grow stronger throughout the day and ready for the chicken container.

Over the rest of the week Purple Group found more chickens each morning and we ended the week with 6 chickens. They are strong enough now that we can watch them scratch around and we are able to handle them. The children are building empathy and confidence in handling the chickens and learning how to keep to them safe, fed, watered and their container clean.

The Nutrition Magician - 'That Magical Smile'

As the children learnt about dental health from The Nutrition Magician, the room was full of laughter. Funny antics, jokes and magic taught the children about how to clean their teeth morning and night, the foods to eat each day to keep their teeth strong and healthy and to get regular check ups at the dentist.

At the end of the show the children met the Nutrition Magician's pet rabbit and were able to have a pat.

Gratitude Hopscotch

Early childhood frameworks focus on building children's capacity to be independent, autonomous and to act with confidence, autonomy and a strong sense of self. At our preschool this includes encouraging children to be challenged, yet find achievement and to build resilience if things don't go as planned and to keep trying. Children are encouraged to be proud of their achievements and attempts and to know their own abilities and support each other respectfully.

This week the children created their own gratitude hopscotch, choosing words of affirmation that described themselves - these included; I am - clever, happy, strong, kind and Australian. They helped to design the hopscotch with chalk on the verandah.
