Level 1 & 2 Wonga Weekly

Week 9, Term 3

READING

We will be looking at the strategy of summarising a text by looking for the main ideas when retelling the story.

What you can do at home...

-Log into Reading Eggs and find a suitable text (remember to change the age for 5 - 7 years old).

-Assist your child to read their Take Home Book and complete their Reading Log each night.

-Help your child to read with expression and fluency as they read.

-Continue to discuss all aspects of the book you or your child is reading, such as the characters, setting, connections you might make and prior knowledge you may have.

WRITING

We will be reflecting on our weekend and then we will begin to practice note taking to take notes on facts about our chosen animals. Once we have found out some basic facts, we will begin to think about how we might protect their chosen animals.

What you can do at home...

-Continue to help your child identify sounds in words and the letters that match those sounds.

-Assist them in the correct letter formation and notice punctuation.

PHONICS

We will be looking at syllabification and the importance of using syllabification to help with spelling and reading

What you can do at home...

-Look for the syllables in a word and then look at the spelling or sounds in that word.

MATHS

We are working with money - finding ways to make various amounts such as $1, $10, $100 etc and looking at adding whole dollars as well as dollars and cents. Some will also be looking at calculating change.

What you can do at home...

Discuss the idea of parts of a whole - how there are 100 cents in a dollar. You could also look at how you count up coins by skip counting 5c, 10c, 20, 50c .

CBL

We are studying the animals we have chosen and the various threats to them. We will now begin to plan how we can make a difference.

What you can do at home...

-Discuss their  animal and what might be the threats for that animal and what people are currently doing to protect that animal.
