Year 6 Canberra Camp
Our Grade 6 students recently returned from an incredible four-day trip to Canberra, packed with learning, adventure and plenty of fun. Students travelled to Canberra by bus, stopping along the way in Euroa, at the HMAS Otway in Holbrook, and at the Dog on the Tuckerbox.
During the week, our Grade 6 students explored many of Australia’s most significant national institutions. A highlight was visiting Parliament House, where students saw firsthand where laws are debated and made. Visiting the House of Representatives and Senate gave them a deeper understanding of democracy in action.
At Old Parliament House, they explored Australia’s political history and how federal parliament has evolved over time.
A moving visit to the Australian War Memorial encouraged reflection and gratitude as students explored the exhibitions and learned about the sacrifices made by Australian servicemen and women.
Students also visited the Australian Electoral Commission Education Centre, where they discovered how voting works in Australia and participated in a mock election, building their understanding of the democratic process.
Students also attended Questacon, where they engaged with hands-on science exhibits, and toured the Australian Institute of Sport to learn about high-performance training and athlete development pathways. An outdoor cycling session with Cycle Canberra took students around Lake Burley Griffin, where they took in all the sights of Canberra!
Across the four days, students demonstrated independence, resilience and excellent behaviour. They supported one another, embraced new experiences and represented our school with pride. We are incredibly proud of our Grade 6 students and grateful to Ms Lougheed, Mrs Bowman, Mr Daffy, Mr Jansson and Mr Sandler who made this opportunity possible.
