Cyber Safety Project Visit

This week, we were excited to welcome the Cyber Safety Project team to our school. Students participated in engaging and age-appropriate sessions focused on staying safe online, understanding respectful digital behaviour, and learning how to navigate the online world responsibly.

The workshops provided practical strategies to help students manage their digital footprint, recognise online risks, and respond confidently to challenging situations.

At MPRPS, our goal is to help students become confident, capable and responsible digital citizens. Technology is used to enhance learning, allowing students to collaborate, create and access a wide range of resources. At the same time, we are committed to ensuring students develop safe and balanced technology habits.

Supporting Safe and Balanced Technology Use

Technology is used intentionally at school to support learning. Students use devices under teacher supervision, with filtered internet access and approved learning programs. We also work to ensure a healthy balance between online and offline learning experiences, with technology used only when it enhances learning.

The Victorian Government has also introduced new requirements for primary schools. From 2027, students in Years Foundation to 6 will use school-provided devices rather than bringing their own from home. MPRPS is currently transitioning to a school-managed Chromebook program, which supports consistent, secure and equitable access to technology for all students.

Working in Partnership with Families

Families play a key role in supporting safe technology use. Some helpful strategies at home include:

  • Having open conversations about online safety
  • Setting clear expectations around when and where devices are used
  • Keeping devices in shared family spaces
  • Encouraging a balance between screen time, physical activity and face-to-face social interaction
  • Encouraging children to speak up if something online worries them

The Cyber Safety Project provide a range of resources on their website including a Cyber Security At Home guide.

All  students will have recieved a Digital Technologies Acceptable User Agreement to take home this week. Please ensure you fill this out and return it to your classroom teacher.

We appreciate the valuable insights shared and encourage families to continue these important conversations about cyber safety at home.
