School Wide Positive Behaviour Support and Respective Relationships News
At Cranbourne South Primary School, our values are at the heart of everything we do. Students, staff, and families all work together to uphold these shared values, making our school a safe, respectful, and inspiring place to learn and grow.
We are Respectful
At Cranbourne South Primary School, respect is thinking and acting with care. Making decisions to show to others we value them and their right to learn in a calm and safe classroom.
We are Responsible
Responsibility is doing the right thing, even when no one is watching. Helping our friends, fixing something we notice is out of place and looking after and using equipment and furniture for it’s intended purpose.
We are Resilient
Resilience is shown through the getting up and giving things a go our students demonstrate every day. When we get into our Learning Pits and try. Through the teaching of strategies to help ourselves manage frustrations at times, so we can continue to challenge ourselves to do hard things.
We are Safe
Safety is paramount to ensuring every student wants to come to school and learn. All students have the right to feel safe in the classroom and the school yard, and all student are responsible for ensuring everyone feels that way.
What does SWPBS look like in our school?
We’ve put together a Behaviour Expectations Matrix that clearly explains the behaviours we expect in different areas of the school—like classrooms, the yard, and shared spaces. It helps everyone know what’s expected and keeps things fair and consistent across the school.
These expectations act as our “school rules” and are taught clearly and consistently in the classroom, the yard, and other parts of the school.
These expectations are to ensure that ALL students and staff are safe at school.

Teaching and Reinforcing Positive Behaviour
We take the time to teach students what positive behaviour looks like, rather than assuming they already know. Staff run lessons and have regular chats with students about our behaviour expectations, then model them in real-life situations. Students get plenty of chances to practise, receive feedback, and reflect on their choices.
Rewarding Positive Behaviour
We love to celebrate great behaviour! When students show our school values and meet behaviour expectations, they’re recognised through our whole-school reward system—whether that’s with Smileys and positive points, house points, or being recognised as a Social Change Champions.
Teaching Social and Emotional Learning
As part of our SWPBS implementation, we also deliver the Rights, Resilience and Respectful Relationships curriculum. This evidence-based resource provides age-appropriate lessons that support students in developing social and emotional skills—essential for success in learning and life. As well as attending the Social Wellbeing specialist class for an hour each week.
Behaviour Continuum
A Behaviour Continuum has also been further developed. This continuum shows where types of behaviours are placed - Minor, Major and Extreme. Each of these behaviours have consequences.
These behaviours and consequences have been and will continue to be presented to all classes on a continuious basis.
