Junior School

It has been a positive start to the year for our Prep, year 1 and year 2 students. They have been focusing on different ways we can move our body safely. So far they have completed a variety of individual tasks involving walking, running and jumping. They have even put these skills into practice in minor games with ‘Silly Bananas’, ‘Frogs and Lily pads’ and ‘Builders and Bulldozers’ being their favourites.

Prep

Our Prep students have thoroughly enjoyed their first experiences in the Art Room! They have been introduced to classroom expectations and how to safely and responsibly use a variety of art materials. In just their first three lessons, students have explored oil pastels, paint sticks, collage and sponge painting.

Students decorated the first letter of their names using a range of creative lines and patterns, showcasing their individuality. They also created vibrant crocodile artworks on collaged backgrounds after listening to the story Solomon Crocodile. Their creativity and enthusiasm have been outstanding!

Middle School

In their first lesson of 2026, students were given the exciting opportunity to design a new CSPS logo to celebrate our 70th birthday this year. Mrs Mckenzie and her team have been reviewing the wonderful student ideas and are now working on developing them into a stunning logo for our school community.

Middle School students have been learning about the Elements of Art, with a focus on value — the lightness or darkness of a colour. They practised creating different tones by mixing tints (adding white) and shades (adding black) to a base colour. Students then used their carefully mixed palettes to paint backgrounds that will be developed further in upcoming lessons.

Students have also been exploring watercolours by creating wildly imaginative “doodle birds.” Beginning with expressive painted shapes students later added outlines, eyes and embellishments, transforming simple blobs of paint into unique and creative bird characters.

Students have also been exploring the vibrant artwork of Dean Russo and have created their own multi-layered artworks featuring a pet or animal portrait. Through this project, they are learning about the colour wheel and discovering how layering warm and cool colours can make their artworks stand out and capture the viewer’s attention.

The Year 5&6 students are taking their inspiration from the Winter Olympics and have been designing mini bobsleds that they will race down a track. These bobsleds will carry Lego characters and will be slightly larger than a Hot Wheels car.
