Wellbeing Report

Hi everyone, we have a fantastic Wellbeing Team with me, Sally and Libby. We can help with any parenting worries or support your family with home or family concerns. The Wellbeing Team are on before and after school duty and we can help with any questions or queries you may have.
If parents are looking to purchase school uniform, we sell second hand school uniforms. We accept donations from families, and we often need spare socks and boys’ and girls’ underwear to change children. When a child has a toileting accident or gets wet, having a supply of spare clothes means there’s no disruption to a parent’s day where you would get a phone call to come down to the school with a change of clothes.
State School Relief
We can help families who are experiencing financial hardship to purchase school uniform. Please see the Wellbeing Team for assistance.
Good routines at the beginning of the day can set the tone for the remainder of the day. Children who come to school feeling refreshed and settled are ready to learn and the quality of their persistence and coping skills are usually increased. Children don’t understand time the same way as adults, and this can cause pressure on families to follow through on home routines. As children get older revise your routines to assess the skills your children have learnt because good routines help children to grow independent and responsible. If you think you are repeatedly asking your children to do things this is a clue that developing a new routine needs to happen. Routines are helpful when you are trying to make new habits including good personal hygiene, organisation, completing jobs and homework.
Morning Routine Tips
Try getting up a little earlier to help the morning run more smoothly.
Give yourself extra time to get to and from school. Rushing increases stress levels.
Good moods can be infectious. Tackle the morning as positively and as optimistically as you can.
The more children can do things for themselves, the easier mornings can be.
Some children respond better if they have an alarm clock.
Have children bathe the night before.
Tackle potential issues the night before when everyone has time and is less likely to be stressed.

Activities at Break Times
Across the year, at break times, the Wellbeing Team run activity clubs. While we expect more hot weather, for this term, at lunchtimes, we are running Lego club in the library.
If your child is looking to make friends, have some fun and be creative, tell them they can come to the activity clubs. The clubs run in the main building outside the specialist classrooms and in the library. In the past, students enjoyed making key chains, bracelets, fidgets and cat’s eyes, turtles, finger knitting, bookmarks and they created some amazing Lego builds.
We are always looking for donations, especially wool, crochet hooks, craft/haberdashery items and Lego. This term, we are collecting the Woolworth’s Lego Bricks. When you are doing your weekly shop or if you have a family member interested in collecting them, we would appreciate you keeping the school in mind. In the past, we have collected the series called the supermarket and farm. The students still love making different shops and farms. If you are having a clean out, please feel free to bring your items to the office/wellbeing office.

Health
I encourage parents to please investigate any potential sickness complaints. Please encourage your child to practise good personal hygiene by washing hands regularly. It isn’t fun to be sick at school and there are exclusion periods for some health conditions. Don’t forget to tell us of any phone or emergency contact changes so we can reduce your child’s concern if they need to be picked up. In case of a toileting accident please supply a change of underwear in your child’s bag.
This term, we expect to have some hot days so freezing cold drinks and adding them to your child’s school bag will help keep lunchboxes fresh longer. A reminder that school hats are compulsory, and I would like parents to be active with encouraging children to wear sunscreen.
This week, we had one reported case of headlice in the junior school. Head lice will be a problem from time to time at Woori Yallock Primary School and it is important to work together as a school community to minimise the frustration caused by the problem. I ask all parents/carers to regularly screen your child and please tell us in order to minimise the concern in the school.
Infectious DiseasesTo help prevent and control the transmission of infectious diseases in schools, a child must be excluded from school if he or she has any of the following:

Attendance Data-It’s Cool to be at School!
This past fortnight, we have celebrated 4 out of 5 students who came to school on their special day. When your child comes to school and it’s their birthday, we are bringing the buzz to make their day even more special. When they arrive at school in the mornings, we are presenting them with a special birthday sticker badge. I must say the kids are really loving this!
Over the time a child attends school, having 1- or 2-days absence does not seem like much but it does add up and can impact on missed learning opportunities.

Building Resilient Kids Through Life’s Challenges with

He is running an online seminar next Wednesday on the 25th of February aimed at helping parents build resilience in their children. It costs $49 but the content looks amazing and would be really helpful to any parent wanting to expand their parenting knowledge and skills. Here is the link with all the details and registration.

If you would like your child to make use of our yummy breakfast foods, send them to school that bit earlier so they will have time to eat and enjoy their food. We serve toast until the music is playing for the start of the school day. Please remind your child that if they want to have something to eat before school that they need to head straight down to the German Room. While the music for the bell is playing there are only fruit cups and milk drinks available.
