Curriculum Day – No School for Students Tomorrow

On Friday our staff will be attending a full-day conference at the Uni Hill Conference Centre in Bundoora with our partnership schools (Greenhills PS, Apollo Parkways PS and Glen Katherine PS). The focus will be on the Victorian Teaching and Learning Model (VTLM 2.0), specifically the areas of explicit instruction and supported application.

This day provides a valuable opportunity for professional learning and allows our teachers to focus, reflect and grow without the usual pace of the school day. When teachers connect with colleagues from other schools, they share ideas, learn new strategies and build a stronger professional community. Together, this helps us deliver the best learning experiences for every student.

We will provide a summary and highlights from the day in the next newsletter.

Ramp Construction

We have received a grant from the Department of Education’s Accessible Buildings Fund to build a ramp that will finally make our oval accessible to everyone in our community.

Work will commence in the next couple of weeks and is expected to take approximately two weeks. A small area of the yard behind Block B will be fenced off during this time; however, there will be no impact on students or school programs.

School Photo Day

School photos are scheduled for 1 April. Students will have both individual and class photos taken, and there will also be an opportunity for sibling photos.

Order forms will be distributed to families shortly. All students must wear the full (current) school uniform on the day.

A word about school uniform

School uniform plays an important role in building a strong sense of community within our school. When students wear the same colours, they share a visible connection to one another and to our shared values of respect, responsibility and care.

Uniform helps create a sense of belonging, reduces social pressure around clothing choices, and strengthens school pride. Each day our students wear their uniform, they are reminded that they are part of something bigger; a supportive community where everyone is encouraged to do their best and be their best.

Proposed Industrial Action

You may be aware that the Australian Education Union (AEU) is currently negotiating with the Victorian Government over pay, conditions, workload and support for public education. Staff who are union members may take protected industrial action, which could include a statewide school strike.  It this stage March the 24th has been identified for a proposed strike day.

If this occurs, government schools may close or operate with limited supervision. To help families prepare, we encourage you to begin considering alternative care options for that day. We will keep you updated as soon as more information becomes available.

Parent Teacher Meetings

Parent/Teacher Meetings are scheduled for the afternoons of March the 17th and 18th. They are an important opportunity for families and teachers to connect and allow us to celebrate student achievements, discuss any challenges, and work together to set goals. By strengthening the collaboration between home and school, we support every child’s learning, growth, and wellbeing. (Children are not required to attend the meetings)

Thank you for your continued support of our school community. We look forward to sharing more updates with you in the next newsletter.
