Years F-6

A lot has happened since the last edition of our Bulletin. I am constantly impressed with the routines that have been developed to allow maximum learning potential in the building. Students are always excited to share their work, which is so great to see.
Charlton College F–6 Celebrates Chinese New Year in Style
Students in Charlton College’s Foundation to Year 6 classes marked Chinese New Year on Monday, February 23, celebrating the Year of the Fire Horse alongside many parents who joined in the festivities. Students learnt about the significance of tea in Chinese culture, dressed up in traditional Chinese costumes, and made and sampled rice balls. A great day was had by all. A big thank you to Ms Yap for all her organisation and to Penny for giving up her time to assist on the day.
Werribee Zoo Excursion
On Wednesday the Year 3/4 class went to Werribee Zoo to see the animals. We left at 7am and had to wait until 9am to eat our yummy lollies.
The first thing we saw was a Gorilla, it wasn’t moving much, but it did hit a bird. The next thing we saw was two female lions and two male lions- they were eating. We saw the monkeys they were jumping and climbing around. We saw really chubby hippos being quite lazy. Then next we tried to spot a cheetah, but couldn’t until Hazel saw it in a cage.
We went on a Safari bus and saw lots of different animals. There were giraffes, water bucks, wild horses, rhinos, zebras, ostriches, bison, antelopes and gazelles. Then we saw elephants and they were ‘chunky’. We saw frogs, snakes and lizards in the reptile house. There was an Australian section with koalas, emus, kangaroos, wallabies and a shearing shed and Ned fell over a lot.
At the park, there was a spinning thing, which made Tyson and Audrey quite sick. Ned was afraid to go down the slide. We all went to the gift shop and spent our money on toys and stuff. The toys were very expensive but we could just afford to get them. On the way home, w
e were so happy to play with our toys and eat our lollies.
Hockey Road Show
Jordy and Toby challenged the students with a variety of skills and drills with the hockey stick. We thank the NCHA for providing this opportunity to our students once again.

5/6 PE
Students in 5/6 PE have been working on their tennis skills over the past few weeks. Our main focus has been controlling our shots and accuracy. They are fortunate enough to receive additional coaching on a Thursday by the senior Sport and Recreation students to continue to build on their technique in preparation for Tennis Hot Shots in Week 9.
Foundation Story Re-Tell
The Foundations students were doing a story ‘re-tell’ on the Three Little Pigs, using the light box and shadow puppets. I was lucky enough to watch a performance and was suitably impressed.
