WELCOME TO GRADE 3!

Hello and welcome to everyone in our Grade 3 community. We're excited for the year ahead and we've already had an amazing start. We'd first like to introduce ourselves and then let you know a few things that have already been happening.

Leap Into Learning

Our first five days of school focused on our 'Leap Into Learning' program. This is time for all students and teachers to get to know each other, become familiar with the routines and establish expectations. All classes had a wonderful time learning about each other, building our class promises, decorating bookmarks and lots more. It set us up for a great start to the year.

Reading / Writing / Maths / Humanities

Each week, the Grade 3 students will be exploring a wide range of skills to help build their reading, writing and maths abilities. We've already started learning about place value in maths, ending sentences and punctuation in writing, and fluency and expression while reading. In Humanities, the students will be exploring larger units of work that tie reading, writing and maths together. At the moment, the students are learning about different types of habitats and how they change over time.

General Reminders / Announcements

  • Being Term One, all students need a hat to wear during recess, lunch and Wimba Sport.
  • Soon, the students will begin bringing reading books home. These will be put into their school satchel (the black pouch with the handle). If your child isn't already bringing that to school each day, please help them to get into that routine.
  • Throughout each day, the students have 'fruit snack'. This is a 5 minute break. For this, they can eat any fruit such as apples, grapes, bananas etc. Other snacks like yoghurt are for lunch/recess. Itnwould be amazing if their fruit snack can come in a small container that can be taken out of their lunch box.
  • If your child is going to be absent for any reason and any length of time, please login to Compass to enter it.
  • March 4th: Parent Teacher Conversations - Students will finish at 12pm on this day. We kindly ask you login to Compass and book an available  time to meet with your child’s teacher to celebrate your child’s progress.
  • March 9th: Labour Day - This is a public holiday, students are not required to attend school.

Throughout the year we will continue to update you in various ways about the learning and growth of your child. But for now, thank you so much for helping to ensure that your child has had a smooth start to the year. We're all looking forward to the year!
