Foundation News

Dear Foundation Parents/Guardians,
It's been a busy few weeks in Foundation, with students settling into their routines and familiarising themselves with classroom expectations. A big thank you to the parents for your continued support in dropping your child off at the door and giving them the space to independently organise themselves for the day. This practice is key to helping your child develop important life skills and fosters their independence.
Meet the Teacher:
Our Foundation team is dedicated to working closely with families to ensure every child builds strong skills, confidence and a love for learning.
The Foundation students have embraced new routines and learning across our key learning areas of English, Mathematics, Humanities, and Social-Emotional Learning.
In English, students have been introduced to the graphemes (letters) s, a, t, and p, along with their corresponding phonemes (sounds). They explored narrative texts through the story The Very Hungry Caterpillar, where they expanded their background knowledge of the butterfly life cycle, identified nouns, and developed their understanding of key vocabulary such as “nibble” and “tiny.”
In Maths, we have focused on identifying and ordering numerals and quantities. Students demonstrated their understanding using manipulatives such as tens frames and counters.
Our first Humanities unit, My Family, has provided wonderful opportunities for rich and meaningful discussions about home life. Students enthusiastically engaged in creating and sharing their family trees.
In Social-Emotional Learning, students explored different situations and the emotions associated with them. They reflected on a personal experience, identified the emotion they felt, and represented this through a drawing.
Fruit snack: A part of our daily routine involves placing fruit snacks on our tables. These snacks serve as a brain break, providing students with an energy boost to support their learning. We kindly request that fruit snacks be stored in a separate container from their lunch boxes. Lunch boxes are often large and bulky, taking up valuable desk space. Using a smaller container for the fruit snack helps free up space, which in turn contributes to a more focused learning environment.
School Hats
Students are required to wear hats while playing outside within Term 1 and Term 4, in accordance with the education department's regulations to promote sun safety. Please make sure your child has a hat with their first and last name clearly labeled on it.
Important dates:
March 4th: Parent Teacher Conversations - Students will finish at 12pm on this day. We kindly ask you login to Compass and book an available time to meet with your child’s teacher to celebrate your child’s progress
March 9th: Labour Day - This is a public holiday, students are not required to attend school
From the Foundation team.
