Student Engagement and Wellbeing

Dear Wimba Families and Students,
What an amazing start to the school year. Students have come back from holidays excited, calm and ready to learn. It’s been wonderful watching the students settle into their new classes, build friendships and get to know their classroom teachers.
House Spirit Captains and Vice Captains
Our Captains and Vice Captains received their badges during our School Assembly on Monday morning. Thank you to Green House Captains and Vice Captains for leading the assembly.
On Wednesday, the Captains and Vice Captains had their first workshop. They focused on writing introduction speeches to present to foundation classes, gathered ideas on how to communicate with their peers across the school and planned out their first activity to do with foundation students.
Attendance
Students are expected to attend school every day and be on time, ready to begin their learning at 8:50am. Arriving on time helps ensure a smooth start to the day and sets students up for success in their learning.
If your child is absent from school for three days with no explanation, you will receive a call from your child's classroom teacher. If there is no answer, we will try your emergency contacts and send you an email. We need all families to respond to us as soon as possible as we need to ensure all absences are explained.
Bullying
At Wimba Primary School, we are committed to providing a safe, respectful and inclusive environment where every student feels valued and supported. We understand that sometimes students experience conflict or challenges in their friendships, and it is important that we work together to support them.
Bullying is behaviour that is deliberate, repeated over time, and involves a power imbalance. It can take many forms, including physical, verbal, social or online behaviour. Not all conflict between students is bullying. Disagreements, friendship issues or one-off incidents are handled differently, but they are still taken seriously and addressed appropriately.
We encourage parents and carers to speak with their child if they have concerns, listen calmly, and gather key information such as who was involved, what happened, and where it occurred. If you believe your child is experiencing bullying, please contact the classroom teacher so it can be looked into and provide support.
By working in partnership, we can continue to build a positive and supportive school community for all students.
You can visit Bully Stoppers for more information.

No Hat No Play
All students are required to wear a hat during break times and outdoors activities from the 1st of September until 30th of April. Please ensure you pack a hat for your child in their school bag. If students don’t have a hat, they will need to stay in a designated area during break times.
Breakfast Club
We love seeing our students drop in on Tuesday and Friday mornings to grab a piece of toast or a cup of cereal. It’s a great way to fuel your body and get energised before heading off to class to start the day.
Just a reminder that the Breakfast Club opens at 8:30am and finishes at 8:40am on Tuesday and Fridays, as all students need to make their way to their classrooms ready for learning.
We look forward to seeing you there! 🥣🍞
Thank you so much for your ongoing support and partnerships. We look forward to working closely with our Wimba families to support our students to have a successful year.
