Teaching and Learning

Settling into learning

This term, it has been wonderful to see our students return and settle so positively into their new classes and build strong relationships with their teachers. At the beginning of the year, we focused on ensuring every child was well prepared for learning through our “Leap into Learning” program. Students were explicitly taught clear routines and expectations to support a successful year of learning.

As we walk through classrooms, it is fantastic to see students actively engaged in their learning — whether through rich conversations with their teachers, collaborative discussions with peers, or the work they are producing. There is a strong sense of purpose and enthusiasm across the school.

Our curriculum maintains a clear focus on English, Maths, Humanities, and Social and Emotional Learning, complemented by our specialist programs in Visual Arts, Performing Arts, STEM, and Physical Education. We are especially excited to introduce Performing Arts as a new specialist subject at Wimba this year and look forward to seeing our students continue to engage with creativity, confidence, and enthusiasm as the program grows.

Continuing to build on the success that we've had at the start of this year, at home reading will be beginning for each of our year levels. Each level will send out specific communication to families around expectations for at home reading. At home reading is a crucial support for  all students to enable continued development of their literacy skills. We are looking forward to parents partnering with us.

Parent teacher conversations

Parent Teacher Conversations are a wonderful opportunity to connect, celebrate your child’s start to the year, and talk together about how they are settling into their class and progressing in their learning. We truly value the partnership between home and school, and these conversations are an important part of supporting every child to grow with confidence and achieve their best during their journey at Wimba.
