Classes 6A and 6B

Hello and welcome to our entire Grade 6 community. It has certainly been a busy, yet fulfilling first couple of weeks of 2026 in both of our grade 6 classrooms. Our grade 6 students have returned to school with great enthusiasm and have continued to be positive role models for the entire school by upholding our school values.

I would like to formally introduce our classroom teachers in grade 6 for this year.

In 6A, our teachers are Mr. Craig Turner and Mrs. Mary Alexander.

Mrs. Alexander will be teaching 6A on a Monday and Tuesday, while Mr.Turner will be teaching the class every Wednesday-Friday.

In 6B, we have Miss. Rosie Smith, who is 6Bs teacher full time.

The three of us are all very excited about being your classroom teachers for your final year of primary school!

What's been happening in the classroom?

During the students first week back, we ran our 'Leap Into Learning' program, where we focused on getting to know the students in our class, allowing the students to build on the positive relationships and community that they have created at Wimba Primary School so far. We also worked together to create and get used to our everyday routines that will make our classroom work as smoothly as possible for the entire year.

English

Classes have commenced their English block lessons on a daily basis by continuing their usual morphology, fluency and grammar and syntax routines. Students have also been working on learning about poetry, through the text 'The Jabberwocky', which is an old poem that has features such as rhyme and nonsense words.

Maths

The grade 6s have currently been learning about patterns and algebra in mathematics. They have been working on being able to identify increasing and decreasing number patterns, also in financial contexts, as well as being able to identify algebraic rules from growing visual patterns.

Humanities

Students have been learning about Australia's government system, including the concept of democracy, the levels of government in the country and how our voting system works.
