Over the past few weeks, we have been focusing on developing our understanding of place value. This is an important foundation for building strong number skills and confidence in mathematics.

Students have been learning to Describe numbers using place value language (for example, identifying how many hundreds, tens and ones are in a number).

We have also been linking our place value learning to real-world experiences by working with money. Students have been using dollars to strengthen their understanding of how numbers are made, how values combine, and how place value helps us calculate totals and change. This helps make our learning meaningful and practical.

We are encouraging students not only to find the correct answer, but also to explain how they worked it out. Being able to talk about their thinking deepens understanding and builds confidence.

You can support this learning at home by asking your child to explain how they solved a maths problem describe a number using place value language, or help you add amounts of money while shopping.

We are very proud of the effort Year Two students have been putting into their learning.

Well done!
