Level 2 students have continued to grow in all areas, and we are seeing some beautiful examples of collaboration, resilience, and persistence in times of challenge.
Students are learning about the past and what communication, transport, home life, chores, and school was like. We were very lucky to have some guest speakers visit us and speak about their experiences from the past. Claire Swanton, Billy's Mum, spoke about growing up in South Africa and what it was like there in the past. We had Katie, Rosie L's great Grandma, speak about her childhood, and we had Ellie J's Granddad, Kelvin, excitedly show some shillings, records, and football memorabilia from the past. We thank these wonderful parents and grandparents for contributing to our learning.

Level 2's have been working hard with numbers to 1,000 and sometimes beyond 1,000. They are consolidating their understanding of place value. Lessons have centered around reading and recording numbers to 1000 and beyond, expanding numbers 1-1000 and beyond (if applicable), solving worded problems, and understanding and applying place value knowledge. We have also looked at length and measured our height, our feet, and applied our knowledge of using rulers, tape measures, and trundle wheels to real-life measuring situations.

Level 2 spelling has been a big focus and students have begun to settle into a very explicit routine every morning with 30 minutes of phonics, spelling, grammar and handwriting. We have learnt that 'y' at the end of a work sometimes says 'e' like funny and bunny. We then moved on to learn that 'ey' also says 'e' like in honey and money. Students have been focusing on writing sentences with a capital letter and full stop, and they are currently learning about character traits in narrative stories.

If you need to speak to your child's teacher, please email them to make an appointment. We want to make sure that we give you our full attention. As classrooms are very busy places, we are often very busy in the mornings as students are arriving. Having said that, if you need to tell us something important, we welcome this as needed.
Warm regards,
Level 2 teachers
