Welcome back to what is already shaping up to be a fantastic year in our Year 5/6 classroom! It has been wonderful to see the students return refreshed, excited, and ready to learn. We are absolutely loving our new classroom space and are settling in beautifully as we establish our routines and expectations together.

A key focus for us this term has been following our school’s baseline behaviour of “Present with Pride.” Students have been working hard to ensure their learning is neat, organised, and completed to the best of their ability — all while working towards earning their pen licence. Presenting work with pride encourages students to:

  • Take greater ownership and responsibility for their learning
  • Develop focus and perseverance, even when tasks are challenging
  • Build confidence in sharing and celebrating their achievements

In English, we have begun our new text The Solar System. This unit was launched with an engaging experiment (pun intended) that beautifully intertwined God’s creation with the Big Bang theory, sparking curiosity, discussion, and deep thinking among the students.

This learning links with our Science lessons, where we are exploring the solar system and beyond. By aligning our subjects around the same theme, students are developing a richer and deeper understanding, making meaningful connections across their learning and strengthening their overall knowledge.

It has been a wonderful start to the year, and we are looking forward to all the learning, growth, and discoveries ahead.
