Dear Sacred Heart Community,
The end of Week 3 is upon us and we are all settled back into the routines of school and learning is taking place. Here's a snapshot of a few things that have occurred at Sacred Heart this week!
MAP Program
So wonderful for our school to be involved in a MACS program known as MAP (Mathematics Acceleration Program), which is aimed at students at Sacred Heart in both Year 2 and Year 4.
Disappontingly, there is an increase in the number of students globally that are opting out from doing Mathematics into Year 12 and beyond. Students around the world are not enjoying Mathematics as much as they should, making it more important than ever to foster positive and engaging Maths experiences.

Our school put our hands up to be a part of the MAP program and today our Year 2 and
Year 4 teachers began our journey. We attended the Catholic Leadership Centre in East Melbourne and participated in some fantastic Professional Development around how to improve our practice.
How the Brain Works, Cognitive Load Theory, Explicit Instruction and Retrieval Practice were all areas of the program that were explored at the PD. Bothy myself as Numeracy Leader and the Middle Years Team are excited at the journey we are embarking upon. Team building, feedback and collaborative planning are all areas that will be used to build teacher efficacy and, ultimately, affect student learning and outcomes for our children.

We are so lucky to have employed our newest and latest teacher, Maddy, who has joined our team at Sacred Heart. Maddy is our Foundation teacher, working in the classroom every Wednesday to Friday. Welcome Maddy to our school community. We look forward to a wonderful partnership with you and our school; with our parents, our staff and our students.
