Catholic Education Week
Christ beside me: Walking in the footsteps of St Patrick.
St Patrick’s Day- 17th March
This week, as an Archdiocese and Catholic school, we are celebrating Catholic Education Week. During this week we acknowledge and celebrate the contributions of students, families, administrators and educators in the life of our Catholic schools.
Throughout the week, students and teachers will be engaging in experiences and learning about the life, example and message of St Patrick.
St Patrick, born in Roman Britain, went to Ireland as a slave and escaped after 6 years. He returned later in life, beginning his ministry, sharing the Good News of Jesus and how his faith was a source of strength and comfort during difficult times in his life.
There are many stories about St Patrick such as famously driving all the snakes out of Ireland. One of the most famous is the way he explained the Holy Trinity to the people of Ireland, comparing the Trinity, Father Son and Holy Spirit is like a three-leaf clover, three parts that make a whole.
St Patrick holds a special place in the hearts of Melbourne Catholics, with our Cathedral being named for him. Last year, a new icon was written, installed and blessed during the Catholic Education Week Mass.
