A Message from the Deputy Principal

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Open Classroom Expo

This term we will be holding an Open Classroom Expo, where all classrooms will be open to families on Tuesday 31st March (Week 10) from 2:20–3:00pm.

Throughout the term, all year levels have focused their FLL learning on the concept of Identity and Community. The Expo will showcase an action or cumulative piece of work that demonstrates how students have explored this concept across the term.

We look forward to welcoming as many parents and carers as possible. Please note that all visitors will be required to sign in upon arrival.

Altered Specialist Timetable – Weeks 9 & 10

During Weeks 9 and 10, we will be running an altered specialist timetable to provide extended planning time for teachers as they begin preparations for Term 2.

We understand that changes to routines can be challenging, so classroom teachers will discuss these changes with their students ahead of time. Communications will be sent to individual classes tomorrow, outlining any changes to specialist days, particularly where PE uniform may need to be worn on a different day.

Thank you for your understanding and support.

Police Visit – Cyber Safety

Students in JLA, MLA and SLA recently participated in information sessions titled “Think You Know – Cyber Safety”, presented by Senior Constable Loretta from the Proactive Policing Unit.

Year 5 students Lily and Manny shared these key takeaways from the SLA session:

        How to Be Safe Online

  • Do not share personal information or photos of yourself online (including your school or daily routines)
  • Do not include personal information in your username
  • Do not share anything online that you wouldn’t share in person
  • Do not add or interact with people you don’t know or haven’t met in person
  • If you haven’t met them in person, they are not your friend
  • If someone is saying inappropriate or uncomfortable things in a game, report and block them
  • People online are not always who they say they are
  • If you ever feel unsafe in person, you can disengage by walking away and finding a trusted adult for help

Phones at the Crossing

Over the past few weeks, we have been speaking with SLA students about road safety and phone use while waiting at the crossing after school.

Karimi reported that some students were not putting their phones away when asked and were attempting to cross the road with heads buried deep in their devices. We have reinforced how unsafe this behaviour can be and the importance of listening carefully to instructions at the crossing.

I am very pleased to share that Karimi informed me this morning that student behaviour has greatly improved, with only the occasional reminder now required. Well done to our students for taking this feedback on board and keeping themselves safe.

Warm regards,
