Digital Learning Update – Years 3–6

It has been an exciting and productive time in our classrooms as students in Years 3–6 continue to build their digital skills in creative, safe, and meaningful ways.

Students have been exploring a range of inclusive tools within Microsoft applications, helping to support different learning styles and needs. These include features such as Digital notebook, Inking with Stylus, Speech to Text, Immersive Reader, Read Aloud and the Dictate function, which empower students to access content, express their ideas, comprehend with support and work with more agency and independence.

We have also introduced Padlet, a closed and teacher facilitated collaborative platform where students are learning how to share ideas, respond thoughtfully, and work together online.

Alongside this, there has been a strong focus on developing positive communication skills and digital etiquette, ensuring students understand how to interact respectfully in online spaces.

Creativity has been flourishing with the introduction of Canva for Education, where students are beginning to design and publish their own multimodal text types inclusive of audio, video, image, and text with layout. This has been paired with important learning around online safety and digital citizenship, including understanding our unique digital footprints, knowing what is safe to share, and how to make responsible choices online.

Outside the classroom, our Lego Club continues to be a highlight each Friday at lunchtime. Students have had the opportunity to learn cooperative team coding and problem-solving using Lego Spike, building both technical and teamwork skills.

A special thank you goes to our fantastic student IT leaders - Lily, Luke, Jordan, and Jonathan - for their leadership, system design and support in mentoring younger students.

Looking ahead, students will be participating in an upcoming Digital Safety incursion facilitated by Victoria Police, focusing on online safety and responsible digital citizenship. This will further strengthen their understanding of how to stay safe and make positive choices in the digital world.

We are proud of the enthusiasm and responsibility our students are showing as they develop these essential 21st-century skills.
