Buddy Leader Program

We are fortunate to have 82 Year 11 Buddy Leaders supporting our Year 7 students this year. Each Buddy Leader is paired with students from their own House and often their own Homeroom, helping to build genuine connections through conversation, scheduled sessions, workshops and organised games.

The aim is simple: to provide another layer of support for your children as they settle into life at Chev. The Buddy Leader Program includes four formal sessions this term, held on Friday afternoons, and continues informally through ongoing interactions in Homeroom.

SIM (Strengths, Interests and Motivation)

SIM is a dedicated program delivered by our teachers, giving students class time to focus on themselves, who they are, what they can do and what they can contribute.

Using units developed by MyDesign, students explore their strengths and potential, helping them build confidence in their wellbeing, learning and future pathways. The program is coordinated by Ms Sheridan Rynne.

Wellbeing Lessons

The College places high importance on student wellbeing, which is why we have scheduled wellbeing lessons built into the timetable.

We are very fortunate to have Lorraine Foy, psychologist and Head of Counselling at Chev, supported by Angelina Martins, College Counsellor. Together, they bring extensive expertise and will present wellbeing topics to students, followed by workshops to deepen understanding.

Topics are guided by Skodel data and Tutor Group feedback, ensuring we respond directly to what students say they need, for example, sleep hygiene, stress and anxiety, and managing workload.

We will also work closely with Mr Hargreaves and Mrs Graham on academic support, recognising the strong link between wellbeing and learning. It’s difficult to thrive academically if wellbeing isn’t in check.

  • Years 9–12: One period per fortnight
  • Years 7–8: Wellbeing integrated into Tutor Group

SKODEL

First check-in: 17 February

Skodel is Chev’s digital wellbeing platform, designed to help us proactively monitor and support student mental health through quick, confidential check-ins. The platform is supported by leading psychologist Andrew Fuller.

How it works

  • Students receive a Skodel check-in message up to three times per term.
  • Each check-in takes around 30 seconds and gives students a chance to reflect on how they’re feeling.
  • Skodel guides them through the process and suggests possible action steps they can add to their personal plan.
  • It also provides links to wellbeing resources available anytime.
  • Check-ins are completed during Homeroom.
