It is hard to believe that the term is almost over. Students have been eager to tell me that in 10 more days we will be on holidays observing Good Friday. We've had a very productive term and Year 4 students will need a well earnt rest. Lisa and I hope that families have a wonderful Easter break.

Readers
It has been wonderful to see the amount of reading that's happening at home. Keep up the great work! It really does pay off.
English
Reading - We've been enjoying a new text called "Leo & Ralph" by Peter Carnavas. It is a delightful novel about a young boy and his imaginary friend. We only have a couple of chapters to go and we are keen to find out what happens.
We did finish our Kensuke's Kingdom novel and we created our own 3D models of the kingdom as described in the text.
Writing - During writing time we've been exploring how we can create characters, settings and plots for narrative writing. We've discovered that using dialogue in our narratives also makes it more exciting to read. We've created a wide selection of mysterious stories and some very gripping thriller texts. We are in the process of conferencing and then editing our work for publishing.
Spelling - We continue to work our way through Spellex and we've learnt some interesting spelling handy hints with spelling of the e phoneme as in beach.
We also learnt that we can change verbs and nouns into adjectives by adding y.
And adjectives can be turned into adverbs by adding ly.
Mathematics
Over the last few weeks we've been learning the difference between analogue and digital time. We've practised telling the time to the hour, quarter past and half past, making the connection the analogue clock is like a pie or pizza that can be cut into halves and quarters to help us. We then explored the increments of 5 minutes which has helped us improve our accuracy of telling time to the minute.
Currently we are investigating the connection between multiplication and division. We had a focus on times tables to help us with automaticity when solving multiplication questions. We also felt like we found a cheat code when we discovered if you multiply a number by 10, 100 or 1000 that you move the numbers to the right in place value depending on how many 0's you're multiplying it by. Last week we were able to use this knowledge to then divide numbers by moving them to the left.
Over the next few weeks, we will be consolidating all of our mathematical concepts covered this term.
Religion
We continue to explore Lent and have begun to look at the major events in Holy Week.
One event we looked at today is Palm Sunday when Jesus arrived in Jerusalem.
Artist Jan Hynes created a modern day version of this event and students were delighted to see something relatable like Jesus depicted riding his bike into town. We have begun to create our own modern day Palm Sunday pictures. We have Jesus riding e-scooters, driving tractors and being driven in a stretch limo just to name a few. Be on the lookout for a masterpiece coming home.
Inquiry
We have just wrapped our science unit about forces. We investigated push and pull, air resistance and surface friction. When we were investigating surface friction we worked out pretty quickly that a smooth surface combined with gravity means that there is less resistance and so an object can travel further. We experimented with this by building ramps for our Hot Wheels cars.
