Harmony Day
St. John's Celebrated Harmony Day with a casual clothes day. In Year 5 we watched some clips about what Harmony Day was and then came up with out own display for our classroom.
Harmony Day is a special day celebrated in that reminds us how wonderful it is that everyone is different. People come from many cultures, speak different languages, and have unique traditions, and Harmony Day is all about respecting and including everyone. The official colour of the day is orange. We wear this to show we believe in kindness, fairness, and friendship. It’s a time to celebrate what makes each of us special while also remembering that we all belong together.
Literacy
We finished the Warhorse book, which the students really enjoyed, and we have moved on to...
This type of explanatory book about building doesn't suit everyone, but it has high appeal to some students. We look at how very tall buildings and bridges are built. We look at all the different features of design and stability in a range of famous landmarks.
Mathematics
We really have been getting our teeth into some great Maths over the past two weeks. We have learnt how to multiply using two digit numbers. The process for this requires quite a few steps, but we are getting much better at this. We have also been learning how to do short division.
See if you can do these at home...
Religion
Students have a strong understanding of Human Dignity and are putting it into practice each day. We’ve also been learning about Lent as we prepare for Easter. Students have been completing a small assessment about their knowledge of Lent and spiritually moving from darkness to light.
Football on the Oval
Football on the oval has become increasingly rough over the past two weeks, so we are implementing stricter rules to ensure everyone stays safe. Students are expected to follow the “touch” rule at all times. Any student who does not adhere to this rule will be sent to the office to write a letter explaining what happened.
This letter will be sent home, and we ask that you read, sign, and return it.
There’s also been lots of great teamwork and heaps of kind, inclusive play. The students are really learning to be great sports, but we just don’t want things to get out of hand.
CDLP - Country Diocesan Leadership Program
In Week 7 I was lucky enough to attend the CDLP with 29 other middle leaders. It was a fabulous experience and I learnt a lot. I would like to thank Trudy Kerlin for replacing me and for Grace and Louise Frewen for helping her out.
NAPLAN Testing
NAPLAN is now finished, with a few minor hiccups across the state. Well done to all our students for doing their best in these statewide tests.
Thanks for the emails so far! If you have any questions, feel free to either email me at mwatson@sjeuroa.catholic.edu.au
Have a great week!
