Year 5/6 News

Welcome back to all of our year 5/6 students! We hope you had a wonderful break and are all ready for an amazing school year!
Firstly, congratulations to our Year 6 Student Leaders on receiving their leadership badges! We are proud of the positive role models they are becoming and look forward to their contributions to our school community this year.
What a fantastic first week we had last week in the SLA. Our students had lots of fun catching up with their friends, as well as getting to know their new teachers and learning space.
We started our year focusing on establishing classroom routines and expectations while getting to know each other as learners and peers. Each class created a “Class Agreement” discussing how they want their learning space to be this year and what this looks like in practice. Each class constructed a class agreement, please see attached the 5/6MC and 5/6NT learning agreements.
In Mathematics, students began our Data Representation unit, where they have been creating and interpreting a variety of data sets.
In Literacy, students began our whole-class novel for Term 1, War Horse by Michael Morpurgo. Throughout the term, we will be focusing on establishing consistent reading routines and strengthening comprehension skills.
