Year 4 News

Welcome back!
We hope you had a lovely, restful break. It has been wonderful having the children back and engaged in so much learning.
As a class, we worked together to create a class charter that identified how we want our learning space to look and feel. Please view the charter below.
Literacy
As readers, we have been exploring strengths-based texts such as The Circles All Around Us, As We Grow, The World Needs Who You Were Made to Be, In My Heart, and All The Ways To Be Smart. Through these stories, we inquired into important ideas, explored the author’s message, and made connections to our own lives. We shared our thinking, asked questions, and learned that everyone has different strengths and ways of growing.
As writers, we have been learning to explain how we learn and grow best, while responding to texts by identifying key ideas, making personal connections, and expressing our thoughts and feelings. This learning has helped us develop our voice, build self-awareness, and reflect on ourselves as learners, setting strong foundations for the year ahead.
Numeracy
As mathematicians, we have been developing our understanding of addition by exploring a range of strategies. We have been learning how to use compensation to make numbers easier to work with and to apply the vertical algorithm with and without regrouping. Through hands-on activities and problem-solving tasks, we explained our thinking, checked our strategies, and chose efficient methods to solve problems. This learning is helping us build strong number sense, accuracy, and confidence when working with larger numbers.
Inquiry
As inquirers, we have begun exploring two big questions this term.Learning – How can we grow? and Health – Have you got the message? We are learning about how we learn, our strengths, goal setting, and positive learning habits, while building routines and strong relationships within our learning community. We are also investigating how health messages are shared through media and our community, and learning ways to promote health, safety, and wellbeing at school and beyond.
