Newlands Basketball Training – Final call for registrations

Newlands Basketball Training – Final Call for Registrations
We are pleased to confirm that our Newlands Basketball training program is moving forward, with a proposed start date of Tuesday 10th March.
Earlier this term, families were invited to complete an expression of interest form to help us determine whether the program could proceed. Please note that completing that first form did not secure a place, as it was only used to gauge interest.
Now that we are officially launching the program, all families must complete the new confirmation form — Newlands Basketball Training – Fill in Form— even if you submitted the original expression of interest. This form is required to confirm participation and finalise team numbers. Submitting the confirmation form secures your child’s place for the term. A separate form will then be sent to families to finalise payment.
Training sessions will run on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 8:00am–8:45am in the school gym, beginning Tuesday 10th March. Each team will train once per week (one 45-minute session).
Students will be grouped into three age divisions:
- Under 8s (5–7 years)
- Under 10s (8–9 years)
- Under 12s (10–12 years)
The cost is $99 per student per term.
Our aim is to enter at least three teams into the winter competition beginning in April. Further details regarding competition will be shared once confirmed.
Important information for existing club players:
Students who already play for other basketball clubs are welcome to attend the morning training sessions. However, due to an existing agreement, they will not be eligible to represent the school in the winter competition.
Coaches and Parent Involvement
Qualified coaches will lead all training sessions and oversee skill development. However, the long-term success of this program depends on parent involvement.
We sincerely thank the parents who have already expressed interest in volunteering. Additional support is still required to ensure each team is well organised and sustainable. Families interested in helping are asked to complete the Newlands Basketball Training – Parent Helper Expression of Interest – Fill in Form.
Each team ideally requires:
- One Head Coach – To lead the team during Saturday winter competition games. During training sessions, this parent would support the hired coach rather than run sessions independently.
- One Team Manager – To assist with communication, organisation and team coordination.
Without parent helpers, teams will not be able to enter competitions.
This initiative is about more than basketball — it is about fostering confidence, belonging and community among our students!
We look forward to building something special together at Newlands.
¡Vamos Newlands!
