Art with Nicole & Emily

Colour Theory and Colour Mixing with students in 4-6
We’ve had a lovely start to art in 2026, enjoying the experience of mixing paint to form new colours. Refreshing our understanding of Primary, Secondary and Tertiary colours. Learning about tints (colour + white) and changing the value of a colour by adding different amounts of white.
We’ve discussed the huge range of colours one finds at a hardware store on paint swatches and learnt about the Pantone colour numbering system. Students have enjoyed creating their own names for the new colours they have created.
Years prep to 3 - Art with Nicole
Nicole's Prep - 2 art class have been creating lanterns and decorating hearts. The lanterns made their way home yesterday while the hearts are on display in the art room. Students used colour slicks to work on their fine motor control while decorating their hearts. They came up with some great designs: patchworks, stripes and blocks of colour.
New School Mural
Also in art this year, Emily will be collecting plastic lids for creating more collaborative art. Last year Emily let our school community know our much loved colourful tree school mural is in a state of disrepair and we will be creating a new mural with our students.
Families are encouraged to collect as many different types, shapes and colours of clean plastic lids and drop them into our boxes located around the school.
