CISSA
Our CISSA teams ended Term 1 with a strong clean sweep of Newman College in Week 9. AFL were victorious 86-0, Basketball with a 50 point win, Touch football 13-1, Football 3-0 and Volleyball rounded us out with a 2 sets to nil victory. Congratulations to all our coaches and players on a successful Term 1.
After two bye rounds to begin Term 2, our squads will take on Trinity Bay next week. Best of luck all!
Marist Basketball
The boys headed west at the end of Week 9 to defend their Shield title, kicking off what turned out to be a big week.
Games began on Monday, and it was a tough start against Lavalla. After a slow start the boys dug their heels in and lifted to finish the game strongly to set us up for the remainder of the day’s games. Jumping quick out of the blocks, we bounced back well with wins over Newman College and St John’s Woodlawn. Cezan Nentjes, Jaiden Woolcott and Josh Lacey all playing key roles across the day, helping the team finish 2–1.
Tuesday was always going to be important, with a must-win game against Sale to make the top six. The boys put together a strong team performance but fell short. Despite the disappointment from a hard fought loss the team responded well again with a solid win over Mount Carmel to finish the day. Our Year 12 group of Austin, Josh and Cezan, along with last minute Nash, led from the front.
That result placed us into the Shield playoff rounds. We took on St Joseph’s first up, and while Josh Lacey had a big game shooting the ball, we couldn’t quite get the result. The boys backed it up with a strong win over Beenleigh, finishing the day 1–1 and setting up a 9th vs 10th playoff.
On Thursday morning, the boys finished the week well with a comfortable win over Mount Carmel. Our Year 11 group of Ben, Cooper, Kobe and Ruben stepped up, and Zach Lacey continued to show that he will be a force in the coming years.
Overall, the boys represented the College well all week. Congratulations to Cezan for winning our MVP and making the Marist team of the Carnival. Josh Lacey for finishing 7th overall points and winning our Champagnat award. Thank you to Mr Bryce Chapman and Mr Callan Newman for taking the boys over the Perth. We look forward to hosting the tournament here in Cairns in 2027.

FNQ Intermediate Volleyball
Our Years 9 and 10 Volleyball team entered the FNQ Intermediate Volleyball tournament hosted at Smithfield SHS on Thursday of Week 1. In a strong competition of 17 teams from 15 schools the boys represented the College well finishing a respectable 7th. A great learning experience for these boys and thank you must go to Mr Shawn Moote for taking the boys on the day.
