Mandarin

大家好! (dà jiā hǎo) Hello everyone!
Over the past two weeks in Mandarin classes, students across the school have been continuing to build their Chinese language skills through a range of engaging learning activities.
Year Ones have revised Chinese numbers and practised counting beyond ten. They also began learning how to write numbers bigger than 10 in Chinese characters.
Year Twos have explored directional language in Chinese, learning how to say directions such as up, down, left and right, and practising these through interactive classroom games.
Year Three and Year Four students have focused on building basic conversations in Chinese. They practised asking and answering questions of “Where do you live?” and “Where are you from?” using simple sentence structures. They practised these dialogues with partners and through interactive speaking activities, building confidence in both listening and speaking while developing practical communication skills they can use in real-life situations.
Our Year Fives have been connecting language with geography by using maps to explore natural disasters that occur in China. This helped them expand their vocabulary while learning more about different regions of the country.
Finally, Year Six students have been learning about different cities and famous attractions across China. They discussed well-known places and discovered interesting facts about Chinese landmarks and culture.
It has been wonderful to see students actively participating and building their confidence in learning Mandarin. We look forward to seeing their continued progress in the coming weeks!
