Year Three

During Term One in Geography, Year Three students have been deepening their understanding of how Australia’s climate influences the way we manage and use resources sustainably. They explored Australia’s states, territories, and climate zones (tropical, arid, and temperate) and how these affect temperature, humidity, and vegetation. Students compared climates across different cities and investigated how people adapt to these environments by designing homes suited to a location different from Melbourne. They also explored the differences between the four European seasons and the Kulin Nation seasons, strengthening their understanding of Australia’s environment and First Nations perspectives. Through their learning about agriculture, students discovered where food and everyday items come from, created “farm to plate” webs, and explored how farmers work sustainably to care for the land. They also examined how water is used and how we can make responsible choices to protect this vital resource.
A special thank you to parent guest speaker Emily White, who shared her knowledge about agriculture and the importance of farming. Our students have shown great curiosity and enthusiasm, asked thoughtful questions and developed a deeper appreciation for how we can care for and protect the land we live on. We are proud of the way they are developing an understanding of how to care for and protect our environment.
