Boarding

A Message from Mrs Andrew

It has been an exceptionally full and exciting fortnight in the Boarding House, with our girls involved in some of the most significant events on the school calendar.

A true highlight was the Festival of Music, held at the iconic Sydney Opera House.

Performing in such a world-class venue is always a special privilege and remains one of the standout events of the school year. The atmosphere was electric, the standard of performance outstanding, and the sense of House pride and unity unmistakable. Our boarders embraced the occasion with enthusiasm and confidence, supporting one another and representing the school beautifully on such a prestigious stage.

We also celebrated Chinese New Year with a wonderful Boarding Dinner, bringing the community together over delicious food in a festively decorated dining room. It was a joyful evening that reflected the cultural richness of our boarding family.

Our recent Parent Zoom provided a valuable opportunity to connect with families, share updates and continue strengthening the partnership between home and boarding.

The fortnight concluded with Cross Country, where the girl's demonstrated resilience, determination and tremendous spirit, cheering one another on and giving their very best.

Hyper Karting

We had a very noisy and full bus on Sunday heading off with students from Years 7, 8 and 9 to Hyper Karting Moore Park, for an afternoon packed with speed, strategy and plenty of laughs!

We tried our hand at BattleKart, an awesome mix of electric go-karting, video games and augmented reality. As we raced around the track, game modes, power-ups and challenges were projected directly onto the floor, turning the whole arena into a giant interactive playground. It definitely wasn’t your average karting session!

We took on 3 epic game modes: In BattleRace, we zoomed around the track collecting speed boosts and launching virtual “missiles” at our opponents. Congratulations to Charlotte (Year 9) for winning the first race and Issy (Year 9) for winning the second. Then in BattleFoot, we switched gears into a soccer-style game, using the karts to pass, defend and score goals. It was fast, competitive and very fun! Congratulations to the orange team for winning 4 vs 3. Finally we worked in teams to take over the track in BattleColour, driving strategically to cover as much of the floor as possible in our team’s colour. There was lots of teamwork and also plenty of rivalry! A big congratulations to the purple team on winning the team challenge!!

To top it all off, we finished the afternoon with a well-earned ice cream or açai bowl— the perfect way to cool down after such a high-speed adventure. A great day out filled with fun, teamwork and maybe even a few future racing champions in the making!

Craftanoon: A rainy Saturday afternoon brought out the joy of the craft box! Juniors and seniors all hung out together, laughing and generally making a creative mess. There were Hama Bead creations with some very original designs such as Arabella’s ‘Biggest Beef Steak’, and Aerin’s ‘Fluffy Unicorn’, water painting bookmarks, colourful beaded bracelets and bedazling of all kinds of items. The Hama beads also offered an opportunity for some of our younger students to try their hand at using an iron!

Kambala Boarders enjoy Bondi Junction Outing and Movies

Our Kambala boarders recently enjoyed a wonderful afternoon outing to Bondi Junction for some shopping and a movie. With the weekend weather a little wet and windy it was the perfect activity.

The girls spent time browsing the shops and enjoying the chance to explore together and make some very exciting purchases. It was then off to the cinema to watch ‘GOAT.’ Everyone was treated to popcorn and drinks, making the movie experience even more special.

The animated film follows a small goat named Will who is given a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to join the professional league of ‘Roarball’, a high-intensity, full-contact sport dominated by the fastest and fiercest animals. Despite being ridiculed by his teammates for his size, Will is determined to prove that determination and heart matter just as much as strength, showing that “small can ball.” The film also features the voice of famous basketballer Stephen Curry, who is also one of the movie's producers.

The girls laughed and enjoyed the entertaining and feel-good story. It was a relaxed and enjoyable Sunday outing filled with laughter, shopping and shared experiences. They returned to school with bellies full of popcorn, bags filled with shopping and hearts filled with joy.

Staff Update

We are delighted to welcome Sophie Purseglove to the Kambala Boarding House team.

Sophie is a Kambala Old Girl and a former Boarding Prefect, and it is wonderful to see her return to the Boarding community in a new role. Having experienced Boarding life first hand, Sophie brings a deep understanding of the routines, challenges and special moments that make boarding such a unique and rewarding experience.

Sophie is currently studying at university here in Sydney and is already forming warm and positive connections with the girls. Her familiarity with the school, combined with her recent experience as a boarder, makes her a relatable and inspiring presence in the house.

We are thrilled to have Sophie join our team and look forward to the valuable contribution she will make to our boarding community.

Saturday Sport

Issy’s (Yr 9)  water polo team smashed their MLC opponents in a crushing 19-0 defeat with our super star Issy scoring 12 goals!!

In our Kambala 13 Touch team, Maggie and Isla (yr 8) had a close game with Kingcopal, ending in a tie, however the efforts of Maggie shone through this week as she received Player of the Match.

Events

Our Boarding House recently came together to celebrate Chinese New Year with a wonderful evening of food, culture and community.

We were delighted to welcome invited guests from the School’s Cultural Committee, along with several Prefects, who joined our boarders for this special celebration. Their presence added to the spirit of unity and shared learning that makes occasions like this so meaningful.

The dining room looked stunning, beautifully decorated in traditional red and gold, creating a warm and festive atmosphere for the evening. The girls enjoyed a delicious spread of Chinese dishes, which were eagerly sampled and thoroughly appreciated by all.

A highlight of the night was our fun and lively Chinese New Year quiz. With plenty of laughter and a little healthy competition, the quiz allowed everyone to learn more about the traditions, symbols and significance of the Lunar New Year.

It was a joyful evening that celebrated culture, friendship and the richness of our boarding community. We are grateful to everyone who helped organise and decorate for the event and to our guests who made the night even more special.
