From Our Principals

Anna-Marie Yelland and Aaron Jones

Dear families,

It has certainly been a mammoth couple of weeks at school, and we are incredibly proud of what has been achieved in such a short space of time. The past fortnight has been full of important events and opportunities that highlight the strength and vibrancy of our school community.

Over the last two weeks we have held and participated in a wide range of activities including our Open Classrooms Afternoon, Community Presentation, P&F AGM, School Council ballot, School Photos, the District Swimming Carnival, a Curriculum Day for staff, and of course NAPLAN. While it has been a busy period, it has also been a wonderful reflection of the many ways our school community comes together to support learning and connection.

Thank you to everyone who attended our Open Classrooms Afternoon. It was a lovely opportunity for families to see our learning spaces. We also greatly appreciated the strong attendance at our Community Presentation. It was exciting to share with you our vision for the school and the practical steps we are taking to ensure student success and a thriving school community. The positive feedback we have received following the presentation has been greatly appreciated by the team.

Our work continues to be guided by three key pillars that shape our decision making and direction:

  • We are a connected community
  • Students are at the centre of every decision we make
  • Our teachers are experts in evidence-informed best practice

For those who were unable to attend the presentation, a brief summary has been attached and can be found in the Community Presentation tab.

You may have heard about the NAPLAN disruptions that occurred across the country this week. Despite the disruptions our students and teachers remained calm and focused throughout the process, and their efforts should be congratulated.

Thank you also to our community members who participated in the School Council election ballot. School Council plays an important role in supporting the governance and strategic direction of the school, and we appreciate your engagement in this process.

Last Friday’s Curriculum Day was highly productive for our staff. The day provided an opportunity to continue strengthening our teaching practice and professional learning. Staff explored several key areas including:

  • Understanding the functions of behaviour and how we can best support students
  • Further refinement of our Are you READY to learn? engagement norm
  • Continuing our instructional sprint, with a particular focus on the instructional routine Think–Pair–Share, which supports student thinking, discussion and engagement in learning

We look forward to seeing the impact of this work continue to grow across classrooms.

A reminder that we will also be celebrating Harmony Day next Friday, 20 March. Harmony Day is a wonderful opportunity to recognise and celebrate the rich cultural diversity within our school community. Students are invited to wear orange or traditional clothing from their culture or country if they wish. Participation in dress-up is entirely optional, but we look forward to marking the day together as a community.

With thanks,

Anna-Marie
