Across the school, students are currently working on a Speaking and Listening assessment task in English. While the specific task looks a little different for each year level, all students are developing their ability to communicate clearly, share ideas, and present information to an audience. It has been great to see the effort students are putting into preparing and practising their presentations, and they are progressing well as they work towards their assessment.
How to support your child at home: Parents and carers can support their child by asking them about their speaking task and encouraging them to explain what they are working on. A great way to build confidence is to let them practise their spoken presentation at home. Listening to them present, asking questions, and giving positive feedback can help students refine their ideas and feel more confident when speaking at school.
The key focus for our school this year continues to be “Reading through the Australian Curriculum”. This initiative ensures that reading development is embedded across learning areas and remains a strong priority for our students. Recently, students completed diagnostic reading assessments, which provide teachers with valuable information about each student’s reading development. Teachers use this data to refine their reading instruction and target the specific skills students need to continue progressing.
Today (Friday of Week 6), Ms Perrett, Mrs Crawford and Miss Jensen are attending professional development focused on reading. We are looking forward to the ideas, strategies and insights they bring back to share with staff and implement in their classrooms to further strengthen reading outcomes for our students.
Thank you for your continued support in your child’s learning journey.
Kind regards,
Chris Walters
