End of Term 1
A reminder that Term 1 ends next Thursday 2 April at 12:45pm. Students can wear their Easter bonnet to school and also wear casual clothes.
Multicultural Day
Last Friday we celebrated Multicultural Day at Sacred Heart Kew, developing student awareness and respect of different cultures. Thank you to our Year 6 students for leading the Dress Up Parade in the morning. It was fantastic to see the variety of vibrant costumes that reflected the many cultures at our school.
The Senior students organised the best 'game' activities to teach the younger students. They were asked to choose games from different cultures, explain the history of the game and teach the skills required to play the game. The games/sports chosen were Finska, Corn Hole, Bocce and European Handball.
Throughout the day, all students completed a Multicultural Day booklet which aimed to deepen their knowledge and understanding of different countries around the world.
All students participated in a Latin Dance Incursion. Steph introduced the students to Latin American greetings and traditions. She taught the students all about the music and traditional dances of Latin America.
Thank you to our wonderful Parents' Association for providing a pizza lunch for staff and students. The children thoroughly enjoyed their cheesy, Margarita pizza. The day ended with all students gathering in their Wellbeing Groups and engaging in a fun crafty activity related to the following countries: Japan, Italy, Spain, Greece, New Zealand, Finland, Netherlands, Native America, France, Solomon Islands.
Richmond FC Visit
Last Tuesday we welcomed players from the Richmond Football Club to answer questions about their life and football. This was part of the AFL Victoria and Richmond FC Primary School Player Appearances. Our students prepared the following questions for Josh Smillie, Harry Armstrong, Toby Nankervis, Jonty Faull, Luke Trainor, Noah Roberts-Thomson and Nathan Broad.
Why did you pick the number you wear?
What do you eat before you play a game?
Who did you barrack for?
How many games have you played?
How many premierships have you won?
Who is your favourite teammate?
Which team is the hardest to play against?
What do you do after the game?
Did any of you play for Kew Comets?
Which teams are your biggest rivals?
Sports Day
Please see below for information and the 'Schedule of Events' for Sports Day next Wednesday 1 April.
As shared with families on Wednesday (via the Audiri app), next Wednesday 1 April sees us celebrate our annual School Sports Day. This is always a wonderful occasion, with all children participating in sprints, a long distance event and a range of tabloid sports. On Sports Day, we encourage students to dress up and be part of the spirit of their house during the course of the day. All students are able to come to school in their sports uniform and a t-shirt that represents their house colour, ready for a day of races, sporting activities and fun.
Mr O’Shea has prepared a fun and enjoyable day for everyone to be involved in. Thanks to our Year 6 Leaders who are also working behind the scenes, preparing House chants as the excitement and team spirit builds. Thanks also to our Year 5 & 6 parents, who on behalf of the PA, have organised a Hot dog lunch and Zooper Dooper icy pole for the children to enjoy next week.
In 2026, the Year 4-6 children will run an extended track for their long distance race that includes the green hill and the bottom half of the basketball court. Spectator areas will be clearly marked and will then change for the Prep - Year 3 children, who will only use the Oval track as in previous years.
Parents are warmly invited to attend both the long distance races in the morning and the sprint races in the afternoon. We ask that spectators spread out around the designated areas marked with bunting and cones for the long distance races, and spread out along the Glenferrie Road side of the school oval for the afternoon sprint races. Thank you to all the volunteers who are able to assist with our long distance races.
Thanks for your support with the above matters. We are very much looking forward to our 2026 School Sports Day next Wednesday 1 April.

2026 School Closure Days
As was communicated to families last year...
* Time in Lieu (TIL)
The current Catholic Education Multi-Enterprise Agreement 2022 (the Agreement) has a formal time in lieu (TIL) process for teachers. The Agreement provides that a principal may require a teacher to undertake work and attend a school activity outside the normal hours of attendance (i.e., in excess of the 38 hours or normal hours for a part-time teacher) and when this occurs, it will attract TIL.
Principals should prepare for the accrual and acquittal of TIL through their annual planning process. The timing of the acquittal of TIL is at the discretion of the principal, having regard to the operational needs of the school and causing the least disruption to the educational program of the school.
Principals may elect to acquit TIL through designating days during the year on which all staff and students are not required to attend school.
