Teaching and Learning in 7-12

Your Teenager’s Learning

At our school, we are committed to keeping you informed and connected to your child’s learning and progress.

This overview outlines the key ways you will receive information and how to access it.

Learning Expectations Alerts

Families may receive alert emails if a student has struggled to meet learning expectations in a subject during the week.

This might include:

  • Not bringing required materials
  • Limited engagement in learning activities
  • Difficulty meeting class expectations

These emails are general notifications designed to give you a quick snapshot of how things are going. As they are sent as a form email, they do not include detailed information about specific lessons or tasks.

Their purpose is to prompt timely conversations at home and help identify when additional support may be needed.

If you would like more detail or context, we encourage you to contact your child’s teacher—staff are always happy to provide further information and support.

Using Compass

Compass is the main platform for accessing information about your child’s learning.

Through Compass, you can:

  • View what your child is learning
  • Check upcoming tasks and due dates
  • Access feedback on learning and work habits

We encourage families to check Compass regularly via the app or web browser.

If you need support accessing Compass, please contact our Administration team.

Understanding Learning Tasks

Learning Tasks provide detailed information about assessment and learning progress.

Each Learning Task outlines:

  • What the focus of learning for this sequence is, and the sort of assessment task being completed
  • Why students are completing it
  • How they can be successful

You will also see:

  • Due dates and submission status
  • Feedback on learning and work habits
  • Rubrics showing what achievement looks like at different levels

Key points to know:

  • Learning Tasks are accessible via student dashboards in Compass
  • Feedback is visible three weeks after the due date
  • Please don't hesitate to get in touch with your child's teacher if you have any queries about Learning Tasks and how your child is progressing in their learning

Working in Partnership

Clear communication between home and school is key to supporting student learning.

Compass, Learning Tasks, and alert emails are designed to work together to give you a clear picture of progress. If you ever have questions or would like more detailed information, please contact your child’s teacher.

We value your partnership in supporting your child’s learning.
