From the ICOM Library

From the Primary Library Team
A fantastic start to term one in the library with our annual ICOM Reading challenge starting in week 6. There was lots of excitement as students made their selections from the new books available for the challenge.
The craft and colouring club, a favourite amongst the primary students, is back again this year and it is wonderful to see the imaginations and creativeness of the students each week. This term, the library team and the craft club students worked together to create a number of beautiful Ramadan displays to highlight the books we have that celebrate this very special occasion.

It has been a wonderful start to the year in our school library, with Term 1 filled with energy, curiosity, and a growing love of reading.
We were delighted to welcome students back into a refreshed library space, featuring a range of new titles to inspire and engage all readers. Our collection now includes meaningful Islamic texts, such as Seerah of the Prophet, alongside popular contemporary fiction, including gripping mystery and thriller titles like The Handmaid’s Tale. It has been lovely to see students exploring these new additions and sharing their enthusiasm for reading.
During the blessed month of Ramadan, the library became a calm and purposeful space for many students as they prepared for end-of-term assessments. It was wonderful to observe a balance of collaborative learning and independent study, with students supporting one another while also taking ownership of their learning. The space was used thoughtfully and respectfully, reflecting students’ commitment to making the most of the
resources available to them.
As part of our Year 7 Library Skills program, we also ran an IT session focused on printing. Students were guided through how to access and use the library printers, including managing their printing credits. This session supported students in developing independence and confidence in navigating essential school systems.
This term, we also had the pleasure of hosting Year 10 work placement students, who were a valued part of our library community. They assisted with circulation and supported primary students during borrowing times. It was especially rewarding to see them step into their roles with maturity, engaging positively with younger students, working collaboratively, and developing confidence as they took on new responsibilities.
It has truly been a joy to have such a vibrant and supportive library environment this term. We look forward to continuing to nurture a love of reading and learning in the months ahead.
