Secondary: Senior Iftar

On Friday evening, our Secondary students returned to the College for the Annual ICOM Iftar, regrouping after the official school week had concluded.
Students spent time listening to sermons from our College Imams, Sheikh Hijazi and Abdushaheed Drew. An Islamic themed quiz and activities also provided a fun way for students to pass the time together as they waited to break their fast.
As the time for prayer arrived, students joined together to perform Maghrib before patiently breaking their fast in the Sunnah tradition, beginning with a single date and a sip of water.
Following the prayer, students enjoyed a shared meal of pizza, pasta and salad, spending time with friends and staff into the late evening. Though many arrived a little tired after a full day of fasting, spirits quickly lifted once the fast was broken and the College gym filled with conversation and smiles.
“Ramaḍan is ending, and very little of it remains. Whoever from you spent it well should finish it the same way.” - Ibn Taymiyyah

This year’s Year 12 Iftar was a particularly special evening, bringing students together to break the fast during Ramadan in what is also their final year of high school. As the sun set, the room filled with a sense of gratitude and togetherness.
Students began the Iftar in the traditional way with dates and water, followed by a shared meal and conversation. Beyond the food, the evening was about connection, friends sitting together, sharing stories, and taking a moment to slow down during what is often a busy and demanding year.
For the Year 12 cohort, the night carried extra meaning. As one of their last shared events before the end of school, the Iftar was a reminder of the friendships, support and memories they have built throughout their time together. It was a simple yet memorable evening that celebrated both the spirit of Ramadan and the journey of the graduating class.
