As we hit past the half way mark of Term One a great reminder to make sure that we are taking a moment to stop, reflect on the year so far and also take some time to prioritise your own wellbeing - good timing with the long weekend looming. Recently I wrote an article for Education Matters on the Human cost of school leadership, it can be found in their March edition and is a great reminder of the many roles and responsibilities we carry as Principals, as well as the complexity and demands that come with leading a school community.

Today we celebrate International Women's Day and I wanted to take a moment to acknowledge the outstanding women leaders across our schools who continue to inspire colleagues, students and the broader education system through their leadership, dedication and example. The 2026 theme for IWD is Balance the Scales is a promise that every woman and girl – regardless of background or identity – should be safe, heard, and free to shape their own lives. During my time in schools, I always valued the opportunity to share an article written by NBA basketballer Steph Curry, given his standing among many students, it proved to be a meaningful way to connect young people to the message of International Women’s Day and to reflect on how he hopes the world will continue to evolve so that his daughters, and all girls, can confidently shape their own lives and futures.

As always, thank you for the extraordinary work you continue to do each day in leading your schools and supporting your communities. The role of Principal remains one of the most complex and demanding positions in our public service and it is also one of the most important. The APF will continue to advocate strongly on your behalf, and I look forward to keeping you updated on the work ahead in the coming weeks. Please don't hesitate to reach out at any time.
