District/Division Tennis Trials
On Friday, 6th March, Emmett represented the school at the district/division tennis competition held at Yarra Valley Grammar.
Emmett competed strongly throughout the day and demonstrated excellent skill and determination on the court. The top two players from each pool progressed through to the semi-finals, with Emmett narrowly missing out on qualification. In two crucial games against the players who finished above him, the matches were decided by sudden deathpoints. Had Emmett been able to secure just one of those points in each match, he would have finished second in his pool and progressed to the semi-finals. Despite the narrow margins, Emmett showed he was very competitive at the level and should be proud of his performance.
Throughout the day, he represented the school with great sportsmanship, pride and enthusiasm, and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Well done Emmett!!!
Grade 5/6 Inter School Sport Term 1 Summer Gala Days
In Grade 5/6, students are given the opportunity to participate in the Inter School Sportprogram. Two gala days are held in Term 1 (Summer Sport) and Term 2 (Winter Sport).
Students are allocated a sport and compete against eight other schools within the Ringwood North District. Many students are placed in sports they have never played before and learn the skills and rules of these sports in the lead-up to the gala days.
On Day 1, Tuesday 3rd March, there were plenty of nerves and lots of excitement, but overall our students really enjoyed the experience.
For some students, it was their first time playing a competitive game of sport. It was fantastic to see the students working together as a Kalinda team and connecting with students from other schools.
On Day 2, the following Tuesday (10th March), students competed in their second InterSchool Sport Gala Day. Teams were placed into either the final or consolation pool based on their results from Day 1. It was amazing to see how much their skills had improved from the first gala day. Students demonstrated greater game knowledge and strategic thinking, as well as more refined skills, particularly in sports that were new to many students, such as Softcrosse. All our Kalinda teams performed well across the two days. As a school, we pride ourselves on being respectful to our teammates, opposition players and umpires when playing sport, and this was clearly shown across both days in true Kalinda spirit. Our teams competed well but also showed great sportsmanship, handling both wins and losses.
Finally, a very big thank you to all our parents and to Steve from Warranwood Cricket Club, who assisted and managed teams across the two days. We wouldn’t be able to field as many teams as we do in the Inter School Sport competition without the support of those who volunteer their time, so thank you again.
