From the Head of Junior School

This fortnight we are focusing on Social Intelligence. Essentially getting along with one another. Colossians 3: 12-13 reminds us: Show mercy to others. Be kind, humble, gentle, and patient. Don’t be angry with each other but forgive each other.

The Bible ranks healthy relationships as the most important thing in life. In Matthew, Jesus says (Matt. 22:37-40): “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ This is the great and foremost commandment. The second is like it, ‘You shall love your neighbour as yourself.’ On these two commandments depend all the whole Law and the Prophets.”

A loving relationship with God is of first importance; but loving relationships with others is second. People of faith are taught to understand that their behaviour affects the people around them. When Jesus said, ‘You shall love your neighbour as yourself,’ He meant that loving your neighbour is not an option, it is a commandment.

This week we will consider and act upon this second commandment, love your neighbour as yourself.

Year 3 had, in their words, an amazing, brilliant, fantastic, best time ever, experience at camp. We look forward to Assembly this week when they will share all their adventures.

Year 1 has their sleepover this week, which is one of the many stepping stones in our camp programme in the Junior School. Each year we build upon the activities of the year before, preparing them for time away from home, engagement with new activities and another step up in independence.

Book Week is combined with our Week of Wellbeing, next week and we have wonderful activities planned. We know that when children feel well, they do well. This week is about sharing the love of reading and how we can look after ourselves inside and out.

Have a great week.
