Middle Learning News

Welcome back, everyone!

It was beautiful welcoming back all the smiles last Monday! Students have expressed their excitement about returning to school. We're all eager to dive into this term, ready to explore new concepts and get back into the swing of learning.

Literacy:

It is a pleasure to hear the significant progress in everyone’s reading skills. Students are increasingly using strategies like sounding out, as well as self-correcting and monitoring their own reading. This term, we will concentrate on deepening our comprehension of the texts we read. To do this, for the past fortnight we have focused on analysing narratives by identifying key elements such as the setting, characters, problem, events, and solution.

As part of our writing activities, students practised summarising information. We explored NAIDOC Week together and students were able to use what they learnt to create informative pieces of writing.

Mathematics

In mathematics, we have concentrated on the concept of time. Students have refreshed their knowledge of the months of the year and practised identifying dates in both short and long forms. They are also learning to calculate the number of days/weeks between events. Additionally, students have started reading time on both analogue and digital clocks. We will continue to build on these skills next week.

Curiosity and Change

This term, our school-wide theme is "Curiosity and Change."

Our essential question is: How can understanding Australia’s history inspire curiosity and guide us towards change?

In this historical unit, we will be comparing the past and the present. If you have any interesting items from the past that you’re willing to share, we would greatly appreciate it. These items will provide students with an opportunity to explore and question, enriching their learning experience.

Tell the Good News-Religion

On Wednesday, all the classes got together to participate in a reflection to the story, The Blind Beggar.

Learning Goals:

This fortnight students have been participating in a one on one conference about their reading, writing and mathematical skills. This has been a time to celebrate all the wonderful progress that I am seeing. We have also began to set new goals for this semester. You may like to ask your child about their goals. I look forward to discussing them with you on Tuesday at our Learning Conversations.

CFA Visit

We thank Gen for organising a visit from CFA.

During the incursion students learnt about fire safety around the home.

They were able to explore the different features of the fire truck and even had a go at the hose!

Birthdays!

Some wonderful birthday celebrations this week!

Special Visitor

We also enjoyed a visit from Browny, Frankie's cute puppy! He showcased his great listening skills!

Have a beautiful weekend everyone!
